Empire – New York, USA 1945

The Empire is the decendant of the McIntosh and the Red Delicious varieties and takes the best from both to provide an apple with better color and flavor. Dark red with heavy, waxy bloom and crisp, juicy flesh with some aromatic quality. They make a unique, rosy applesauce. They often lose their shape quickly when baked. Best for fresh eating. Fruit hangs on tree longer than McIntosh. Very consistent annual producer.
